Rebel Without A Cause
On the American Film Institute’s Top 100 Greatest American Films of All Time
You're tearing me apart!
James Dean shocked the world when he appeared in “Rebel Without a Cause” in 1955. And he shocked the world again when he died on Sept. 30, 1955, at age 24, a month before the opening of the film. Dean became an icon because he was the right star in the right roles at the right time. So did Leonard Rosenman the composer of “Rebel” and “East of Eden” as Mr. Rosenman supported himself by teaching piano in his early years. One pupil was a young actor named James Dean. After Mr. Dean was cast in “East of Eden,” he introduced Mr. Rosenman to the film’s director, Elia Kazan. Mr. Kazan hired Mr. Rosenman to write the score for “Rebel”.
