Seventy-six trombones led the big parade With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand.
IMG Artists and PGM Productions are thrilled to welcome you to the stunning live-orchestra concert presentation of the much beloved film, Meredith Willson’s The Music Man!
With the beauty and drive of Meredith Willson’s wonderful score performed live to the original 1962 film, the timeless anthem “76 Trombones” – already a knock-out experience by itself – bursts from the screen with the force of a full symphony orchestra!
Nominated for six Academy Awards – and winner of Best Musical Score! – this classic musical film follows con artist Harold Hill as he arrives in River City, Iowa, planning to swindle the town by selling them instruments and uniforms for a boys’ marching band he never intends to form. As he convinces everyone to buy into his scheme, he is viewed skeptically by the local librarian, Marian Paroo. However, as Harold tries to win her support, he unexpectedly falls in love with her, and his deception evolves into a genuine desire to make a contribution to the community.
With Robert Preston as the thrill-seeking music huckster, Shirley Jones as Marian, Buddy Hackett as the comic support and many more, the film celebrates turn-of-the-century mid-western values and its music of the people. The love story itself generates some wonderful songs: “Marian the Librarian”, “Gary, Indiana”, “The Wells Fargo Wagon”, “(Ya Got) Trouble” and “Shipoopi”. The list goes on of tunes that have thrilled audiences and The Music Man fans around the world. It is one of the best movie musicals ever made!
